What's Streaming Media?

Streaming is just a way to transfer data in a steady stream like a river, so it goes out and the user gets to listen or watch in real time as the data comes in.

Let's say a movie is compressed by a codec, then it comes into a program. The program takes the data in and puts it in a buffer, then the buffer sends it to the user. So if everything works correctly, there’s always extra in the buffer. From the users perspective it’s like seeing everything live without any delay. That’s streaming.

A Breakthrough Innovation in Automotive Industry

Streaming media rearview mirror is an innovative attempt in automotive industry. It use a video feed from a rear-mounted HD camera to fill the inside mirror with a real-time image, and give the driver a completely unobstructed look at what's behind the car.

Rear-mounted camera increase field of vision by an estimated 300% over traditional rearview mirrors, or roughly 4 times greater than a standard rearview mirror.

In addition to the increased field of view, the technology eliminates any rear seat, rear pillar or passenger obstructions, allowing the driver an unimpeded view of the lanes behind and traditional blind-spots. “The closest comparison to this kind of rear vision would be driving a convertible with the top down,” said Travis Hester, Cadillac CT6 executive chief engineer.

Future Outlook

Streaming media rearview mirror is designed to provide a smarter and more humane driving experience. In the future, it will completely replace the traditional rearview mirror, and even realize more derivative functions.
